2. What did Saint Peter ask the old lady for? What was the lady’s reaction?
Ans: Saint peter asked the lady for a cake. The lady answered positively but behaved in a very negative way. She made a cake for the saint but reduced the quantity of the dough again and again. It is because she did not want to give a cake that could satisfy the saint.
3. How did he punish her?

6. Is this a true story? Which part of the poem do you feel is the most important?
Ans: No. It is not a true story. The poet clearly expresses his views regarding the story by stating that he himself does not believe it to be true. Still, it provides a good lesson to the listeners. I think the most important part of this poem is stanza twelve. It is because it indicates the consequences of an ungenerous attitude.
7. What is a legend? Why is this poem called a legend?

Ans: A legend is a story that is passed from one generation to the other. It is considered to be a fictitious one. This poem is not a fact but a poetic fiction. This is why it is called a legend. The poet himself does not believe this story to be true.

Oral Comprehension: Page- 51
1. What makes writing in a diary a strange experience for Anne Frank?
Ans: Anne Frank is a thirteen-year-old school girl. She does not have any experience of expressing her views by writing in a diary. She thinks no one will be interested in the musings made by her. These are the reasons which make writing in a diary a strange experience for Anne Frank.
2. Why does Anne want to keep a diary?
Ans: Anne wants to keep a diary to express her feelings about day-to-day happenings. Her friends were not able to be confided in. Her diary was the most important friend for her. This is why Anne wants to keep a diary.
3. Why did Anne think she could confide more in her diary than in people?
Ans: Anne Frank believed her diary to be more patient than people. This is the reason why she thought she could confide more in her diary than people.
Oral Comprehension: Page- 51
1. Why does Anne provide a brief sketch of her life?
Ans: Anne provides a brief sketch of her life because she wants people to the sensitive facts about her life. She thinks people won’t believe her musings unless she writes about her unbearable situations in her diary.
2. What tells you that Anne loved her grandmother?
Ans: Anne Frank's parents emigrated to Holland. She along with her sister was sent to Aachen to stay with her grandmother. Anne started right away in her studies staying with her grandmother. But in 1942 she witnessed the death of her grandmother who was her most important caretaker. She was shocked by the death of her grandmother. These events tell me that Anne loved her grandmother.
Oral Comprehension: Page 54
1. Why was Keesing annoyed with Anne? What did he ask her to do?
Ans: Mr. Keesing was annoyed with Anne because she used to talk too much in the class. She was warned several times, but she did not rectify herself. At last, he asked her to write an essay on ‘Chatter Box’.
2. How did Anne justify her being a chatterbox in her essay?
Ans: She proved that she had got her traits inherited from her mother. Also, she stated that talking was a student’s trait that can’t be modified or changed. This is how she justified her being a chatterbox in her essay.
3. Do you think Mr. Keesing was a strict teacher?
Ans: I don’t think Mr. Keesing was a strict teacher. It is because he did not take any serious action against Anne Frank for her talking too much n the class. Instead, he assigned her to write an essay on a ‘Chatter Box’. So this comfortable behavior of Mr. Keesing proves that he wants his students to learn in a very practical way.
4. What made Mr. Keesing allow Anne to talk in the class?
Ans: A joke about a mother duck and the baby ducklings made Mr. Keesing allow Anne to take in the class. It is because the joke played on Mr. Keesing by Anne was taken positively by him.
Thinking  about  the Text: page-54
1. Was Anne right when she said that the world would not be interested in the musings of a thirteen-year-old girl?
Ans: Anne was absolutely right when she said that the world would not be interested in the musings of a thirteen-year-old girl. It is because people are normally found to be taking interest in the thoughts and matters of famous persons or the persons who are in any way powerful in society.
2. There are some examples of diary or journal entries in the ‘Before You read’ section. Compare these with what Anne writes in her diary. What language was the diary originally written in? In what way is Anne’s diary different?
Ans: What is written by Anne in her diary can be written in journals or memoirs also. She has mixed up her diary with memoir and journal. Her diary was originally written in Dutch. Anne’s diary is different because he has written so many things concerned with memoir and journal. In this way, her diary is different from other diaries.
3. Why does Anne need to give a brief sketch of her family? Does she treat ‘Kitty’ as an insider or an outsider?
Ans:  Anne believes that no one would take any interest in her thoughts. She wanted the people to know about her family which was only possible if she could write. So she decided to give a brief sketch of her family. She treats ‘Kitty’ as an insider.
4. How does Anne feel about her father, her grandmother, Mrs. Kuperus and Mr. Keesing? What do these tell you about her?
Ans: She was affectionate with all her family members. She said that she had an adorable father. As she stayed with her grandmother in the absence of her parents she loved her very much. She used to comply with all the orders of her teachers. She was very sad during the farewell of Mrs. Kuperus. These tell us that she was very affectionate to the teachers and her family as well.
5. What does Anne write in her first essay?
Ans: She wrote in her first essay about how talking is important for students. She stated that talking is a trait of students. She sketches the character of her mother by saying that she also talks so much.  Anne wrote that she has inherited the traits from her mother. At last, she wrote, much more was not possible to be done about inherited traits.
6. Anne says teachers are more unpredictable. Is Mr. Keesing unpredictable? How?
Ans: Yes! Teachers are more predictable. It is because Anne was assigned her homework as a punishment. But one day,  after writing her essay Mr.Keesing treated her just opposite of what she thought about. Instead of giving another homework, he allowed her to talk in the class. This is the reason why she says that teachers are more unpredictable.
