2. Answer the following questions.
(i) How do desert animals survive without water?
Ans:- Desert animals develop different ways to survive without water. They are adapted to the harsh conditions. Gerbils spend the hottest part of the day in cool underground burrows. Darkling beetles are experts at catching drops of moisture on their legs, then lifting them into the air until the drops trickle down into their mouths. Camels have long, shaggy winter coats to keep warm and tidier coats in the summer to keep cool. They get all the moisture from desert plants and can survive for up to ten months without drinking any water.
(ii) How do mongooses kill snakes?
Ans:- Mongooses are very swift and quick fighters. They save them very fast from the strike of snakes. They attack the snake till they are tired. In this situation, the snake does not save from the swift attack of mongooses. This is how the mongooses kill the snake.
(iii) How does the hump of the camels help them to survive when there is no water?
Ans:-The humps of the camel are like a storage container. They are full of fat. When the food for them is scarce the fat of the hump nourishes them. Slowly the hump shrinks, which means fat is automatically used up. They are completely adapted to desert life.

WRITING
Imagine you are journeying through a desert. Write a couple of paragraphs describing what you see and hear.
Ans:-Life in a desert is very difficult. A desert is a sandy region without vegetation and rainfall. When I visited the Thar I found so many unfamiliar animals and villages. People were not seen after 9,o clock anywhere. There was nothing but sand and sand dunes in the desert.
I found the hot winds caring sands from one place to another one. Camels were seen everywhere walking and caring for the goods along with the human beings. The very that day I understood that water is the most precious thing for life. A very few animals and birds are found there. I heard the howling of jackals and mongooses.
