Ans:- Vijay Singh was a born wrestler. He was fond of boasting himself always. Once he declared that he was not afraid of ghost. Then and there he received a challenge to visit a haunted land to meet the ghost. He was not able to reject the suggestion to do so. Thus his boasting about his power and strength pushed him into a dangerous situation.
2. Was the old woman's gift to Vijay Singh eccentric? Why?
Ans:-No, the old woman’s gift to Vijay Singh was not eccentric. The gift provided by the old woman helped Vijay Singh fight the fearful ghost. With the help of the gift containing salt and an egg the ghost was outwitted.
3. Why did Vijay Singh ask the ghost disguised as Natwar to come closer?
Ans:- Vijay Singh asked the ghost disguised as Natwar to come closer because he wanted to see how the ghost could be defeated. He wanted to know his power and strength so that he could prepare to fight well.
4. What made the ghost speechless? Why?
Ans:- On looking at Natwar’s face Vijay Singh addressed the ghost as plain lying one. This statement made the ghost speechless. He thought he was insulted and humiliated.
5. Why did Vijay Singh say "Appearances can be deceptive"?
Ans:-  The ghost was trying to prove that he was greater than Vijay Singh. Vijay Singh did not find any sign in the ghost which could make him powerful. So he said “Appearance can be deceptive”. Also Vijay Singh wanted to demonstrate his stamina.

Ans:- Vijay Singh wanted the ghost to squeeze a piece of rock. The ghost did not get success doing so. Cleverly, Vijay Singh showed the ghost that he was more powerful by crushing the egg showing the rock. The very next time he challenged the ghost to crush another rock. Again the ghost was failed to do so. Vijay Singh took the salt kept in his pocket and crushed it showing that it was rock. The ghost was again defeated. 
2. Why did Vijay Singh conclude that the ghost would not be a worthy opponent to him? Was he fair in his judgement?
Ans:- Vijay Singh wanted to prove himself more powerful than the ghost. So he concluded that the ghost would not be a worthy opponent to him. He outwitted the ghost by using his egg and the salt. The ghost did not understand his crafty attitude and nature. So it is quite clear that he was not fair in his judgement.
3. Why did Vijay Singh ask the ghost to accompany him to town next day?
Ans:-Vijay Singh asked the ghost to accompany him to the town the next day because he wanted to show the people that he was so powerful that he could carry the ghost as his slave. He wanted to show off his power to impress the people of the town.
4. What made the ghost believe Vijay Singh was dead?
Ans:- The ghost made a plan to kill Vijay Singh at his sleeping. When Vijay Singh understood the plan he left the bed and put a pillow on his place. The ghost tried to kill the pillow thinking he was killing Vijay Singh. But he did not hear even a word of groaning, so he thought Vijay Singh was dead.
5. Vijay Singh complained of insects in the cave. What was he referring to, and why?
Ans:- Vijay Singh complained of insect in the cave. He was comparing the ghost to an insect. He wanted to make the ghost understand that the ghost was nothing more than an insect.
 Was it really a ghost who Vijay Singh befooled? Who do you think it was?
Ans:- I don’t think it was a ghost. Nobody can say that a ghost can collect wealth and acquire property. It might be a dacoit who stayed alone with his stolen property and wealth.
