1.Why did the king want no more talk about the hilsa-fish?
Ans:-The king wanted no more talk about the hilsa-fish because people in the court created boredom by talking almost all the times about the fish. The king was fed up with these talks.
2. What did the King ask Gopal to do to prove that he was clever?
Ans:-The king asked Gopal to buy a big hilsa and bring it to the palace without anyone asking him a word about it.
3. What three things did Gopal do before he went to buy his hilsa-fish?
Ans:-These are the three things Gopal did before he went to buy his hilsa-fish.
(i) Gopal saved his face only a half.
(ii) He smeared ashes on his body.
(iii) He put on rags.
4. How did Gopal get inside the palace to see the king after he had bought the fish?
Ans:-Gopal reached the gate of the palace with his bought fish. He wanted the gatekeeper to let him see the king but the gatekeeper denied permission. Now Gopal started dancing and singing loudly. The king heard the loud noise and got Gopal brought to the palace. This is how Gopal got inside the palace to see the king after he had bought the fish.
5. Explain why no one seemed to be interested in talking about hilsa-fish which Gopal had bought?
Ans:-Nobody in the court was able to understand the person who was allowed to see the king with a peculiar looks. Gopal's queer looks drew the attention of the people towards his appearance instead of the fish. So the people for the time being forgot to talk about the hilsa-fish.
