Ans:-Kari was an elephant. Its thatched in the pavilion was strengthened in a way that it could save it from falling down in case of being touched or bumped by the elephant. The stumps were made of some very strong wood supporting the thatched roof.
2. Did Kari enjoy his morning bath in the river? Give a reason for your answer.
Ans:- Kari enjoyed the morning bath in the river. He liked to go to the river for his bath regularly. The narrator helped him take bath. He used to use clean sand to rub his body. Again he washed his body with the clean water to wipe the sand out. Now the elephant used to make a sound of pleasure and moved back. That was a regular routine for both the narrator and the elephant. Kari liked the service of the narrator very much during his bath every morning.
3. Finding good twigs for Kari took a long time. Why?
Ans:- Kari wanted to eat fresh and tender twigs. So the narrator had to find the tree which had fresh and tender twigs. Kari did not like to eat mutilated twigs, so the twigs were to cut very carefully. The narrator had to move from tree to tree in search of fresh twigs. That was why finding good twigs for Kari took a long time.
4. Why did Kari push his friends into the stream?
Ans:- Kari pushed his friend into the water because he wanted his friend to help him rescue the drowning child. He was not able to rescue the child on his own from the river.
5. Kari was like a baby. What are the main points of comparison?
Ans:- Kari was like a baby. Sometimes he became naughty. If he was trained or taught not to do a particular thing that is not good, he was able to understand like a baby. If he was scolded for his wrong deeds he understood.
6. Kari helped himself to all the bananas in the house without anyone noticing it. How did he do it?
Ans:- Kari was fond of eating bananas. Once he saw a banana kept on the dining table. He stole all the bananas using his black trunk, through the window.
7. Kari learned the commands to sit and to walk. What were the instructions for each command?
Ans:- The command ‘Dhat’ was used for making him sit, whereas ‘Mali’ was used to make him walk.
8. What is "the master call"? Why is it the most important signal for an elephant to learn?
Ans:- “The master call” is an emergency call. It is the most important signal for the elephant to learn because it takes at least five years. If one wants to use “master call” he has to make hissing, howling sounds in the elephant’s ear, and then he comes into action.
