1. The poet says, "Beauty is heard in....."
Can you hear beauty? Add a sound that you think is beautiful to the sounds the poet thinks are beautiful.
The poet, Shelley, said:
Heard melodies are sweet,
But those unheard are sweeter.
What do you think this means? Have you ever 'heard' a song in your head, long after the song was sung or played.
Ans:-Yes, I can hear beauty when my favorite singer sings for me a melodious song. I felt pleased when I hear the chirping of birds and the melodious chanting of Bhajans. It means that beauty stays with us forever. Actually, beauty is not to touch, it is to be felt and experienced. I have heard several songs in my head, long after the song was sung or played.
2. Read the first and the second stanzas of the poem again. Note the following phrases.
Corn growing, people working or dancing, wind sighing, rain falling, a singer chanting,
These could be written as corn that is growing people who are working or dancing
Can you rewrite the other phrases like this? Why do you think the poet uses shorter phrases?
Ans:-The other phrases may be, the farmer working, the birds chirping, the boy smiling, etc. I think the poet uses shorter phrases to produce melodious musical effects.
3. Find pictures of beautiful things you have seen or heard of.
Ans:-I have found so many beautiful things, like the decoration of Durga Mandap, Decoration of Wedding Mandap, scenes of films, mountains, etc. I heard about the beauty of some palaces which I want to visit very soon.
4. Write a paragraph about beauty. Use your own ideas along with the ideas in the poem. (You may discuss your ideas with your partner.)
Ans:-The poet describes 'beauty' in a very impressive way. The poem indicates that beauty is seen in thought, action, and dreams. It is seen even in the sunlight, birds, and working people. It is seen in the dance for the harvest. I think beauty stays in the minds of the people who really have a sense of beauty, who are really fond of beauty. Nobody can touch beauty but experiences it very well. Beauty does not leave the mind. It captures the people in a way that it continues its journey throughout our life. It is reasonable and remarkable.
